THE HIGHLINE – New York City
One of my most funny hobbies is photography, some months ago when I was researching about greatest photographers around the word, I discovered Joel Sternfeld his artworks show in large format color pictures the contemporary American life. One of my favorite Joel’s books is Walking the High Line, he was documenting since 1990s the abandoned elevated railway in the west side of Manhattan, in February 2020 his book was published.
In 1999 this place was destined for demolition, fortunately the community proposed creating the new green park. Nowadays its park is an inspiration for other cities to transform industrial zones into public spaces.
Now I am living here in New York like an English Program student at College of Staten Island I am planning to visit this place, this park runs from Gansevoort St to Hudson Yard zone, it is a 1.45 miles elevated linear park it has some restaurants and many spots to rest. The High Line is free and open daily form 07:00 am to 10:00 pm, there you can see an exceptional views of west side of Manhattan.
So, I want to do a photographic Serie to contrast the old railway at 90s with these days, the High Line offers some alternatives opportunities for unique shots, from urban landscapes to nature and public art. For example, Iwould like focus on the contrast between nature and the city, or maybe highlight the people and activities along the park. When I finish the series, I hope to share my work in a gallery. I love to live in this city.
