1. Programa de inglés intensivo en línea (A
tiempo completo)
El programa de inglés intensivo en línea
del ELI se ofrece a los estudiantes que desean centrarse en las habilidades de
lectura y escritura, lecciones de gramática, una preparación para el examen
TOEFL y un curso de conversación. El programa a tiempo completo de 6 semanas
(Summer) y 16 semanas (semestre de Fall o Spring) tendrá 4 lecciones o
cursos/asignaturas por semana, cuatro horas por día (summer) y 4.5 horas por
día (semestre), de lunes a jueves, en la mañana o en la noche hora de Nueva
York.
Contenido del programa
Este programa es ideal para estudiantes
que desean mejorar las habilidades de escritura, lectura, comprensión auditiva
y expresión oral desde la comodidad de su hogar. Los maestros discutirán varios
temas, desarrollarán vocabulario, estrategias de escritura, reglas gramaticales
en contexto, habilidades de conversación, pronunciación y un breve curso o
asignatura de preparación para el examen TOEFL, que permitirá a los estudiantes
tomar el examen digital TOEFL ITP al final del programa.
Calendario del programa
El programa se llevará a cabo durante 6 semanas
(verano) o 16 semanas (semestre). Los estudiantes deben registrarse y pagar por
periodo, ya sea por el Verano 1 (Summer 1), Verano 2 (Summer 2), o semestre
(Fall o Spring).

Horas del programa (Carga horaria)
Durante el verano (summer), las clases
tendrán cuatro (04) horas de duración por día con un total de dieciséis (16)
horas por semana y 96 horas en total en 6 semanas, para el programa a tiempo
completo. Para el semestre de otoño o primavera (Fall o Spring), las clases
tendrán cuatro horas y media (4.5) de duración por día con un total de
dieciséis (18) horas por semana y 288 horas en total en 16 semanas, para el
programa a tiempo completo.
Horario
ELI abrirá un horario en la mañana y uno
en la noche. Para verano (summer), el horario de clases será de lunes a jueves,
y dos horarios disponibles, de 9:00 a.m. a 1:00 p.m. o de 5:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m.
(hora de Nueva York). Para semestre de otoño o primavera (Fall o Spring), el
horario de clases será de lunes a jueves, y dos horarios disponibles, de 9:00
a.m. a 1:30 p.m. o de 5:00 p.m. a 9:30 p.m. (hora de Nueva York).
Niveles
Se ofrecerán diferentes niveles:
principiante, intermedio y avanzado. Si se registran más de quince estudiantes
en un nivel, se abrirá un segundo grupo siempre que cumpla con el número mínimo
de estudiantes.

Los
libros no serán obligatorios, pero los estudiantes pueden comprarlos por su
cuenta si lo desean. Los profesores trabajarán con temas de acuerdo con los
currículos académicos proporcionados por el área académica ELI.
Plataforma
El
programa usará la plataforma de Zoom, con un video en vivo donde el profesor
compartirá diferentes actividades para que el programa sea comunicativo. Los
estudiantes deberán tener una cámara y audio disponibles para participar en el
programa. El programa será sincrónico (en simultáneo o en vivo) y los
estudiantes pueden conectarse considerando la diferencia horaria en sus propios
países.
Tamaño
de la clase
El
número máximo por grupo y por nivel será de quince (15) estudiantes.
Examen
Digital de TOEFL ITP
Los
estudiantes tomarán el examen digital de TOEFL ITP supervisado por su profesor.
Los estudiantes sabrán inmediatamente su puntaje tan pronto como terminen la evaluación.
El puntaje les permitirá postularse a cualquier carrera universitaria de pre o
postgrado de cualquier universidad de CUNY, incluida el College of Staten
Island.
Certificado
Los
estudiantes tendrán un certificado de ELI digital al final del período. El
certificado estará a nombre de CUNY y CSI.
IMPORTANTE: Para poder postularse a
cualquier título escolar de CUNY, los estudiantes deben registrarse a tiempo
completo en el Programa de inglés intensivo en línea ELI. Los estudiantes
registrados a tiempo parcial no podrán postularse a ningún título escolar de
CUNY. Los estudiantes con visa F-1 que sean nuevos en nuestro programa online
deben cumplir con 22 horas de clases semanales durante el verano y 18 horas
durante un semestre.
Costo
El
programa tendrá un costo total de US$ 1,080 por periodo de verano como tasa del
curso del programa y US$ 2,880 para un semestre. Los estudiantes deben pagar
una tasa de inscripción adicional de US$ 50 antes de comenzar el programa. Los

2. Lectura/Escritura/Gramática/TOEFL o
Conversación (Tiempo parcial)
El programa de inglés intensivo en línea
de ELI se puede tomar como un programa de medio tiempo. Los estudiantes pueden
tomar la mitad del programa, lo que significa lectura, escritura, gramática y
TOEFL o sólo el curso de conversación.
El programa de medio tiempo se ofrecerá
a los estudiantes que deseen centrarse en las habilidades específicas que
ofrecen los cursos. El programa de 6 y 16 semanas tendrá cuatro (04) lecciones o
sesiones por semana, dos horas o dos horas y media por día, de lunes a jueves, en
la mañana o en la noche.

que desean mejorar sus habilidades pasivas (lectura y escritura) o habilidades
activas (conversación) desde la comodidad de su hogar. Los maestros discutirán
varios temas dependiendo de cada curso, tales como habilidades de comprensión
de lectura, escritura académica, reglas gramaticales, construcción de
vocabulario, mejora de la pronunciación, fluidez, expresión de opiniones
basadas en el pensamiento crítico y otros aspectos de las comunicaciones.

currículum en línea
Hay cuatro componentes básicos del plan
de estudios en línea de ELI: Clases de lectura y escritura, gramática,
comunicación y TOEFL (preparación de exámenes y mejora de habilidades).
Reading & Writing (Lectura &
Escritura)
El enfoque en estas clases en línea es
desarrollar y fortalecer las habilidades de los estudiantes para leer e
interpretar textos en inglés y escribir con fines académicos o de negocios.
Este curso ayuda a los estudiantes internacionales a prepararse para los
requisitos de escritura de la universidad. Las actividades de escritura
incluyen revistas, informes, ensayos argumentativos, crítica literaria y
escritura creativa. Los niveles avanzados también cubren los formatos y estilos
de trabajos de investigación, y la investigación de medios electrónicos.
Conversation (Conversación)
En estas clases, los estudiantes
desarrollan la capacidad de comunicarse en inglés con facilidad y confianza, y
con una pronunciación aceptable. El énfasis está en escuchar eficazmente y
hablar con mayor fluidez, precisión y vigor. Los estudiantes de nivel avanzado
practican el uso de señales culturales y un tono y estilo apropiados en
discusiones, presentaciones, debates y entrevistas. El contenido del curso se
basa en las experiencias multiculturales de los estudiantes y explora varios
aspectos de la cultura e instituciones estadounidenses.
Pronunciation (Pronunciación)
Este es uno de los componentes más
importantes del programa de conversación en inglés en línea. Con esta
habilidad, los estudiantes principiantes podrán mejorar sus habilidades de
pronunciación para tener una comunicación integral con los sonidos correctos,
entonación, estrés, habla conectada, enunciación, fluidez, acento, etc. Los
estudiantes intermedios y avanzados podrán mejorar el acento y la pronunciación
de palabras difíciles.
Grammar (Gramática)
En las clases de gramática, el énfasis
está en desarrollar una conciencia y facilidad en el uso de estructuras
precisas y apropiadas en inglés hablado y escrito. Las formas gramaticales se
practican en situaciones significativas, y los estudiantes aprenden a expresar
sus ideas de manera clara y precisa. El trabajo en clase y las tareas acentúan
la interdependencia de la gramática y la comunicación. Los estudiantes toman
conciencia de todos los aspectos de las estructuras gramaticales, incluida la
forma, el significado, la sintaxis y el uso.
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
En esta clase en línea, los estudiantes
están preparados para los exámenes, como el TOEFL ITP. Los estudiantes aprenden
estrategias importantes para tomar exámenes y mejoran su dominio general del inglés,
incluidas sus habilidades para escuchar, leer y escribir. El ELI administra una
prueba institucional de inglés como lengua extranjera (TOEFL) en diciembre,
mayo, julio y agosto. El curso ayuda a los estudiantes a trabajar en
estrategias efectivas para tomar exámenes mientras aumenta el dominio del
inglés. El puntaje oficial TOEFL ITP permitirá a los estudiantes postularse a
cualquier título escolar de CUNY.
Otros
componentes académicos
Prueba de nivel de
inglés en línea
Los estudiantes son evaluados antes
de que comience el programa. La prueba de nivel de inglés en línea no tiene
ningún costo y determina el nivel del estudiante en ELI (principiante,
intermedio o avanzado). Los estudiantes podrán tomar una prueba de 10 minutos y
los resultados se mostrarán de inmediato, de acuerdo con los niveles de
competencia del CEFR (Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages) en A1 y A2 para principiantes, B1 y B2 para
intermedios, y C1 y C2 para avanzados. ELI proporcionará un enlace para el
examen de ubicación en línea y el resultado se enviará inmediatamente a nuestro
departamento académico.
Cambio de niveles
Si los estudiantes sienten que no
están en el nivel correcto, los profesores de ELI lo reportarán al área académica
de ELI. Si el área académica lo aprueba, el alumno puede cambiar de nivel. Los
nuevos profesores determinarán si el estudiante encaja en el nuevo nivel. La
prueba de cambio de nivel no tiene costo.
Evaluación
Los profesores evaluarán a los
estudiantes con pruebas, exámenes escritos, exámenes orales, tareas y otras
herramientas. Los maestros pondrán un puntaje cada semana o cuatro (04) semanas
y un puntaje final al final de cada semestre de verano/semestre. Para el
verano, los maestros pondrán un puntaje después de la segunda semana, al final
de cada semana y un puntaje final al final del período de verano. El puntaje
será de cero (00) a cien (100). Setenta (70) serán un puntaje de aprobación.

Asistencia
La asistencia es importante para aprender un idioma,
ya que les permite a los estudiantes tener más exposición a la práctica.
Alentamos a todos los estudiantes a asistir a clases en línea, pero en el caso
de no asistir a una clase, los estudiantes serán excusados, pero la evaluación
final puede no reflejar el rendimiento exacto o la mejora.
Tardanza
Los estudiantes que lleguen tarde a la clase serán
marcados como ausentes si llegan diez (10) minutos después de que la clase haya
comenzado.
Retiro de programa
Los estudiantes que se retiren del programa deberán
comunicarlo a la oficina de ELI sólo por correo electrónico
(elistudy@csi.cuny.edu). Los estudiantes no recibirán reembolso si se retiran
después del primer día de clase. Los estudiantes no recibirán ningún
certificado si se retiran en cualquier momento del programa.
